St. Augustine Wins Second Straight Allstate Sugar Bowl CYO Tourney

NEW ORLEANS (December 3, 2011) – St. Augustine High School defeated Holy Cross High School, 76-52, on Saturday night to earn its second straight title in the Allstate Sugar Bowl CYO Basketball Tournament. Craig Victor, a 6-7 sophomore forward for the Purple Knights, earned Most Valuable Player honors for the second year in a row. In the 58 year history of the tournament, he is just the fifth player to earn MVP honors more than once. It is the 10th title in the event for St. Aug.

St. Aug improved to 8-0 on the year with the victory. The Purple Knights pulled away early as Victor scored their first seven points, building a 17-point halftime lead. The Tigers cut the deficit to 13 points in the third quarter, but that was as close as they would get. Victor led all scorers with 18 points, while R.J. Daniels had 15 points and 13 rebounds, Javan Felix scored 15 and Sydie London added 10. Greg White-Pittman scored 16 points to lead Holy Cross while Wesley Pinera chipped in with 11 points.
