Butler has had a sensational month for the Crusaders, rushing for 919 yards and 12 touchdowns for an average of 183.8 yards per game over five games. Included in his performance for the month was a school-record 302-yard day with three touchdowns in a victory over district rival and defending state finalist Rummel High School. He also became Brother Martin's all-time leading rusher during October.

The senior (pictured right at July 2011 banquet with Sugar Bowl President Lance Africk) opened the month with 184 yards and two scores in a win over Helen Cox, then followed that with his record-setting outing against Rummel. Playing against Tate High School from Florida, he piled up another 196 yards and three scores in a Crusader victory. He closed the month with 133 yards and two touchdowns against St. Augustine and 104 yards and two scores against Archbishop Shaw.

The Greater New Orleans Sports Selection Committee has been selecting an Amateur Athlete of the Month each month since 1958. The athlete must be a native of the greater New Orleans area or must compete for a team in the metropolitan region in order to be eligible. Each of the monthly award winners will be honored in the summer at the Greater New Orleans Sports Hall of Fame Induction and Awards Ceremony, hosted by the Allstate Sugar Bowl.
