Rummel's Damian Williams Earns November Athlete of the Month Honor park
Quarterback Damian Williams, the star quarterback from Rummel High School, has been selected as the November Amateur Athlete of the Month for Greater New Orleans in voting by the Greater New Orleans Sports Selection Committee, sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl.
In the month of November, Williams carried the Raiders to a 5A state championship game appearance as his team went 5-0 after earning the top seed in the 5A playoffs with a 13-0 overall record. In five victories, Williams completed 37-of-60 passes (62%) for 854 yards and seven touchdowns with just one interception while rushing 74 times for 447 yards and four touchdowns (6.0 avg.). Williams set a school record in Rummel's bi-district playoff win over Lafayette (49-7), going a perfect 9-of-9 passing for a school-record 315 yards and two touchdowns. A four-year starter, Williams is coached by Jay Roth.

Williams edged Patrick Morton from John Curtis High School in voting. In an outstanding month of November, Morton completed 25 of 35 passes (71.4 percent) for 732 yards and 10 touchdowns. Nearly all of his stats came before halftime as Curtis scored no less than 41 points in the first half in the five November games. With Morton efficiently operating the Patriots' veer option offense, Curtis averaged 440 yards of total offense during the month.
The Greater New Orleans Sports Selection Committee has been selecting an Amateur Athlete of the Month each month since 1958. The athlete must be a native of the greater New Orleans area or must compete for a team in the metropolitan region in order to be eligible. Each of the monthly award winners will be honored in the summer at the Greater New Orleans Sports Hall of Fame Induction and Awards Ceremony, hosted by the Allstate Sugar Bowl.
