Rummel Bowler Collects April Athlete of the Month Honor park
Charles Noble, the top bowler for the Rummel High School team, has been selected as the April Amateur Athlete of the Month for Greater New Orleans as selected in voting by the Greater New Orleans Sports Selection Committee, sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl.
Noble led Rummel to a second consecutive Division I state bowling championship in Lafayette, shooting a 663 series (221 average) to pace the Raiders to an 18-9 championship match victory over Morgan City at Acadiana Lanes on April 12. A senior, Noble led the metro New Orleans area and the state of Louisiana during the season, averaging 221.9 per game. Over a two-year period, Noble has helped the Raiders go unbeaten at 32-0, dominating the sport on the boys side.
Other top April Athlete of the Month candidates included UNO track standout Brandon Knight, who registered the second-best high jump in school history to qualify for the NCAA East Regional Championships and Jacob Seward, who had a huge month for the Brother Martin baseball team, hitting .470 for the month as the Crusaders advanced to the state quarterfinals.
The Greater New Orleans Sports Selection Committee has been selecting an Amateur Athlete of the Month each month since 1958. The athlete must be a native of the greater New Orleans area or must compete for a team in the metropolitan region in order to be eligible. Each of the monthly award winners will be honored in the summer at the Greater New Orleans Sports Hall of Fame Induction and Awards Ceremony, hosted by the Allstate Sugar Bowl.
