|Allstate Sugar Bowl Track & Field
The Allstate Sugar Bowl Track & Field Classic, held each spring (scheduled for March 23-24 in 2018), is recognized as one of the top high school track and field classics in the Southeast region. Since 1993, this event has been the largest high school track and field invitational in Louisiana, featuring over 100 boys' and girls' teams and 2,000 student-athletes from Louisiana and surrounding states. The event is held in Tad Gormley Stadium, a recently-renovated facility which has hosted numerous track and field events, including the U.S. Olympic Trials. Admission is $5 per day while children 12 and under may enter free of charge.

"Since coming on board in 1996 as the sponsor, the Sugar Bowl has made it possible to transform what was once a modest local event into one of the premiere high school track & field meets in the country," said meet director Mike Corn. "The Allstate Sugar Bowl Track & Field Classic has become a fixture on the schedule of many teams from throughout the South and continues to generate greater and greater interest nationwide. I think that the Sugar Bowl Committee recognized some time ago that high school sports are vital to our community and they have made a financial commitment to student athletes who take part in those sports, providing them with opportunities to compete in first class events that most probably would not have otherwise."
After multiple weather-related delays, the Allstate Sugar Bowl Track & Field Classic was cancelled on Saturday afternoon before the completion of many events. The meet was halted three times due to rain and lightning. Those instances, coupled with unfavorable forecasts, led meet organizers to cancel the remainder of the event due to safety concerns for participants, fans and officials.
2017 Allstate Sugar Bowl Track & Field Classic Results
Despite the cancellation, the meet had an excellent Friday of action, including a pair of meet records. Caitlyn Little, Alabama's indoor state champ in the 60-meter hurdles, may have been the most impressive competitor. The senior from Hoover (Ala.) High School set a meet record in the preliminary heat of the 100-meter hurdles, running a 13.64 to break the mark of 13.90 seconds set by Dinesha Bean from Cordova (Tenn.) High School in 2008. Little also had the top qualifying times in the 100-meter dash (12.04) and the 200-meter dash (24.26).
The other meet record came in the boys' javelin as junior Tzuriel Pedigo from Parkview Baptist (Baton Rouge) High School, had a throw of 206-00 to break the record set by Ruston (La.) High's Mark Taylor in 2004. Pedigo was second in the Louisiana Class 3A outdoor meet last spring.
