Gough-Fortenberry Named May Amateur Athlete of the Month

Chad Gough-Fortenberry, the catcher who led Northshore High School to the Class 5A state baseball championship, has been named the Greater New Orleans Amateur Athlete of the Month for May, the Allstate Sugar Bowl announced on Wednesday.

During the month of May, Gough-Fortenberry went 7-for-13 (.538) with three home runs, two doubles, five walks and eight runs batted in five games. Behind the plate, he threw out 4-of-5 would-be base stealers. He was named second-team All-American by EA Sports, ESPN and MaxPreps, as well as a third-team All-American by the American baseball Coaches Association. In addition, he was selected first-team All-State and was the 5A Most Valuable Player at the state tournament.
Gough-Fortenberry has signed to play college baseball at Southeastern Louisiana.
Northshore was 5-0 during the month, posting playoff victories over Grace King, Sulphur, South Terrebonne, defending state champion Barbe and Dutchtown in the title game. Northshore was ranked as the No. 2 team in the nation by USA Today in its final poll; as well as in the top 10 by Baseball America, MaxPreps, ESPN Fab 50 and Collegiate Baseball.
Each of the monthly award winners will be honored in the summer at the Greater New Orleans Sports Hall of Fame Induction and Awards Ceremony, hosted by the Allstate Sugar Bowl and the Greater New Orleans Sports Selection Committee, on Saturday, June 6.
