Overtime Shot Lifts Newman to Allstate Sugar Bowl CYO Basketball Title park

Kyle Lewis' putback as time expired in overtime lifted Newman High School to a 58-57 victory over Brother Martin to give the Greenies the title in the 2012 Allstate Sugar Bowl CYO Basketball Tournament. It is the first CYO Tourney title for Newman, in the 59th year of the tournament. It's the fifth year that the event has been sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl.

Final Brackets

Trailing by one with five seconds to go, Kendall Lewis was off the mark with an 18-foot jumper, but twin brother Kyle gathered the rebound and rattled home the game-winner to shock the Crusaders. Brother Martin had taken the lead on a turnaround jumper by Bryant Bourdeaux.

Kyle Lewis had 22 points, 12 rebounds and three steals to pace the Greenies and earn a spot on the all-tournament team. Duke Douglas had 16 points and 11 boards for Newman to cap an outstanding weekend and earn tournament MVP honors. Brother Martin was led by 17 points from Jordan Lumpkin and 15 from Jordan Cornish.
