Jesuit & Mount Carmel Win Allstate Sugar Bowl Regional Tennis Titles
NEW ORLEANS (April 25, 2009) – Jesuit High School and Mount Carmel Academy earned the boys’ and girls’ championships, respectively, at the 2009 Allstate Sugar Bowl Class 5A Regional Girls Tennis Tournament this past weekend. The Cubs won the girls’ title with a victory over Assumption. In boys’ action, Jesuit collected the boys’ crown over Archbishop Rummel.
In individual action, Mount Carmel’s Ellen Edwards held off Indi Mire from Thibodaux for the girls’ singles title, while Rummel’s Brock Turnbull took home the boys’ championship with a win over Taylor Smith from Jesuit.
Mount Carmel also registered the girls’ doubles championship as Meghan deBaroncelli and Gabrielle Roe defeated Erin Hebert and Paige Blanchard from Assumption in the finals. In boys’ doubles action, Jordan Ezell and Gerard Suhor from Jesuit captured the championship over Stephen Joubvert and Cameron Nodier from Brother Martin.
This was the first year of the Allstate Sugar Bowl’s sponsorship of the event.
