Allstate Sugar Bowl Basketball History

Montverde had a tough challenge in its semifinal match-up as Karr (New Orleans) High School trailed by just five points at the half and held the powerhouse to its lowest scoring output of the season before falling 52-40. Ben Simmons, the 6-8 standout who is the jewel of LSU's recruiting class finished with 25 points to lead the visitors.

Riverside, meanwhile, had 22 points from Herb McGee as the Rebels held off Natchitoches Central, 70-68, to keep in line for a shot at a third straight tile in the event.

In girls' action, Salmen, Destrehan, Warren Easton and Mt. Carmel all won to advance to the semifinals. Easton, last year's Louisiana Class 4A runner-up, improved to 17-0 on the year with a 48-44 win over Karr. They will take on last year's Class 5A champion, Mt. Carmel in the semifinals – the Cubs defeated John Curtis, 64-49, in their quarterfinal game.

The 4A state champion from last year, Salmen, knocked off Ouachita, 43-31. Salmen won the Allstate Sugar Bowl Prep Classic title last year. The Spartans will take on last year's Class 4A runner-up, Destrehan in the semifinals. Destrehan was a 54-33 winner over Cabrini.
