Montagnino lit up the scoreboard in January, with four 20-point games including 33 against Houston on January 5. She shot .529 from the field (54-of-102) and connected on 55 percent from three-point range (24-of-44). She kicked off the month with 21 points and five three-pointers at UTEP, then hit seven-of-nine from long distance against Houston en route to 33 points. Her seven threes were one away from the Tulane school record.

After a 19-point performance against Rice on CSTV on January 7, Montagnino led Tulane with 29 points in a win at Tulsa, hitting six more three-pointers. Her fourth 20-point game came against UCF on January 28, as she struck for 21.

Previously awarded with Conference USA Player of the Week honors for the week of January 8-14, Montagnino also chipped in 14 assists for the month. She also contributed on the defensive end with 4.9 rebounds per game and 17 steals.

Her 159 points in the month helped her climb within striking distance of the 1,000-point mark for her career – and achievement she reached on February 1, at Houston. She became the 18th member of Tulane’s 1,000-point club and currently sits 17th on the all-time scoring list with 1,021 points.

For the season, Montagnino is averaging 15.9 points per game, fifth in Conference USA. She also ranks second in free throw percentage (.891, which ranks ninth nationally) and three-point percentage (.443, fifth in the NCAA), and sixth in field goal percentage (.475).

In January, Tulane won six of eight games, and now sit tied atop Conference USA with a 9-2 league record and a 20-4 overall mark.

The Green Wave battle Conference USA co-Leader UAB (14-9, 9-2) on Saturday at home, with the winner having the inside track at the regular season conference championship. Tulane and UAB tip-off at 2 p.m. at Fogelman Arena.

The Greater New Orleans Sports Awards Committee has been selecting an Amateur Athlete of the Month each month since 1957. The athlete must be a native of the greater New Orleans area or must compete for a team in the metropolitan region in order to be eligible.
