Over 1,600 student-athletes took part in the JVA World Challenge sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl on April 2-4 at the Ernest J. Morial Convention Center. The event featured 165 girls youth volleyball teams from 13 states as well as Canada and Puerto Rico. The top two teams in each division were awarded free entry to the AAU Championships to be held in June in Orlando.

There were four different age groups competing with two divisions in each group (Open and Club). Eight champions were determined on Sunday. In addition, a “Second Line” event on Saturday morning drew over 500 participants, making it one of the longest Second Line Parades in New Orleans history.

The following teams earned their entry fee from AAU to the AAU National Championships at Disney World, Orlando Florida in June.

In conjunction with the JVA World Challenge was the AVCA Spring Girls’ Talent Showcase. The event was open to uncommitted and unsigned girls’ volleyball players who will graduate from high school in 2010, 2011, 2012 or 2013. With over 150 college coaches in attendance, it proved to be an excellent opportunity for young volleyball players to move towards continuing their careers at the collegiate level.
