Jesuit and Mt. Carmel On Top Again in Class 5A Region III Tennis Tournaments
NEW ORLEANS (April 26, 2012) – For the fourth straight year, Jesuit High School and Mount Carmel Academy captured the boys and girls titles, respectively, at the Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 5A Region III Tennis Tournament sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl on Wednesday and Thursday at the University of New Orleans. However, this year, Mount Carmel shared the girls championship with Dominican High School. The region consists of teams from the Bayou region of Louisiana and the South-shore Metro New Orleans area.
On the women’s side, Dominican matched Mount Carmel with 16 points, while Chapelle took third place with 11 points. For the men, Jesuit cruised to victory. Brother Martin took second place.
Dominican’s second-seeded doubles tandem of Kelsey Blosser and Madison Antigues upset the top-seeded pair from Mount Carmel, Ali Moore and Sophie Skipper, to earn the share of the team title. Mount Carmel’s Gabrielle Roe won the girls singles title over top-seeded defending champion Hayley Tucker from Dominican.
Jesuit junior Hobie Hotard, the two-time state champion in boys tennis, rolled to his third straight regional title, defeating teammate John Lindsey. The boys doubles championship was also an All-Blue Jay event as Andrew Crespo and Ben Barrigan topped teammates Trevor Lew and James Sampognaro.
