Tom Hill Earns July Amateur Athlete of the Month Honor
NEW ORLEANS (August 4, 1972) – Track star Tom Hill, who has earned a spot on the United States Olympic Team, has been selected as the July Amateur Athlete of the Month by the Sugar Bowl Sports Selection Committee.
Hill competed at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Ore., in early July and captured a Gold Medal in the 110-meter hurdles to earn his position in the upcoming Olympic Games in Munich.
After growing up in the Magnolia Housing Project and graduating from Cohen High School in 1968, he became a five-time All-American at Arkansas State University. Since his graduation in 1972, he has been serving his Army ROTC obligation as an assistant coach with the United States Military Academy’s track and field program.
