First College Football Playoff Rankings Released

(October 31, 2017) – The Selection Committee for the College Football Playoff (CFP) released its first rankings of the year on Tuesday evening. The group’s Top 25 was officially announced on a live ESPN broadcast. The committee will continue to update the rankings each Tuesday through November 28, with the final rankings being released on Sunday, December 3 on ESPN.

“The committee members spent a lot of time preparing for today by watching games and studying detailed information,” said selection committee chairman Kirby Hocutt. “I am grateful for how seriously they take their mission. There are three new members this year and they all hit the ground running.”

The Allstate Sugar Bowl (Monday, January 1, 2018) will host two of the top four teams in one of the College Football Playoff Semifinals. The other Playoff Semifinal will be hosted by the Rose Bowl, also on January 1.

The Allstate Sugar Bowl will host the Big 12 and the SEC seven times in the next 10 years. The other three seasons (2017, 2020 and 2023), the Allstate Sugar Bowl will serve as a College Football Playoff Semifinal.
