The Allstate Sugar Bowl will host five regatta events in 2021. Regatta, or sailing, has been a part of the Sugar Bowl event repertoire since its inception in 1934. All events take place on Lake Pontchartrain with the Southern Yacht Club as the headquarters.

The Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Regatta was scheduled to kick things off on September 25-26, however, that event has been postponed due to Hurricane Ida; new information will be posted when available. That is followed by the open regatta on November 13-14 – this includes PHRF, One-Design and the annual Race of Champions. The Great Oaks High School Regatta will take place on November 20-21.
On November 25-27 (Thanksgiving Weekend), the Sugar Bowl will host the Optimist Midwinters Regatta. Optimist sailors compete in three different age categories – under 10 years old, 11-12 years old and 13-15 years old. The Optimist Midwinters are expected to include over 100 sailors.
The final event of the 2021 regatta schedule will be the Allstate Sugar Bowl High School Regatta on December 4-5.
“The Sugar Bowl Regatta has always been one of the premier yachting events in the United States,” said Barton Jahncke, Olympic Gold Medal winner and multiple Sugar Bowl Trophy winner. “It has given young sailors, from the Optimist class through high school and intercollegiate levels, the opportunity to learn how to compete at a very high level. The Regatta is extremely well-organized and is held in high regard by national and international competitors alike.”
