For the sixth year, the Allstate Sugar Bowl sponsored the Primetime Super 60 AAU Tournament at multiple locations in New Orleans on Memorial Day weekend (May 26-29, 2017). The primary headquarters of the event was the Alario Center in Westwego.

The 2017 event featured 321 boys’ teams, including many of the top-rated AAU teams in the country, from second-grade to eighth-grade and 54 girls’ teams from sixth to 11th grade. Teams played multiple games at 24 locations around the city. The tournament featured young athletes from 13 different states and drew 10,000-12,000 visitors to the city. “The Sugar Bowl is well-known for staging one of the best college football games each year, but we also have a long and proud history with the sport of basketball,” said Sugar Bowl CEO Paul Hoolahan. “We are very pleased to be a part of the Primetime Super 60 tournament and look forward to welcoming all of these young men and their families and fans to New Orleans for Memorial Day weekend.”

The Sugar Bowl, which has a rich history with the sport of basketball dating back to 1936, is scheduled to sponsor three major high school tournaments this year. The roundball schedule began with the third annual Allstate Sugar Bowl National Prep Classic in January; it continues with the Primetime Super 60 tourney and will wrap up with the 60th annual New Orleans CYO High School Tournament in December. In addition, the Sugar Bowl Committee was a key part of the Local Organizing Committee for the 2012 NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four as well as the 2013 NCAA Women’s Basketball Final Four this past spring.

The mission of the Allstate Sugar Bowl is to sponsor and promote amateur sporting events which will foster revenue and spark economic growth in the city of New Orleans and the state of Louisiana. Through all of its year-round slate of events, the organization has generated over $2 billion of economic impact for the city and the state in the last decade alone.
