Each January, the Allstate Sugar Bowl sponsors the National Prep Basketball Classic (scheduled for January 5-8, 2022). The event features multiple brackets for both boys’ and girls’ high school basketball players. It has featured teams from Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Mississippi, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Texas.
Allstate Sugar Bowl Basketball
While the event started with eight teams in 2011; it featured 68 teams in 2019, including 10 Louisiana state champions and 12 out-of-state participants.
In addition, the tournament organizers, Friends of Prep Sports LLC, award four $1,500 scholarships to deserving student athletes in the tournament.
Bishop Loughlin High School from Brooklyn and Germantown Academy from Fort Washington, Pa., earned the top boys’ and girls’ titles, respectively, at the 2019 Allstate Sugar Bowl National Prep Basketball Classic. Bishop Loughlin won the boys’ national bracket while Germantown won the girls’ platinum bracket. Other champions were Landry-Walker High School from New Orleans (boys’ state division), Lee Magnet High School from Baton Rouge (girls’ gold division) and Dominican High School of New Orleans (girls’ silver division).
