Allstate Sugar Bowl Collegiate Bowling Invitational
October 19 - October 21
The Allstate Sugar Bowl added another sport to its sponsorship portfolio in the fall of 2013 when it added the title sponsorship of the Allstate Sugar Bowl Collegiate Bowling Invitational. The seventh annual edition of the Tulane-hosted event (the sixth sponsored by the Sugar Bowl) is scheduled for October 19-21, 2018, at Colonial Lanes in Harahan, La.
This year’s event will feature 14 women’s collegiate bowling teams, including six nationally-ranked programs: the 10th-ranked Green Wave, No. 4 Sam Houston State (the tournament’s defending champion), No. 6 Stephen F. Austin, No. 11 North Carolina A&T, No. 17 Louisiana Tech and No. 25 Texas Southern.
The fifth-ranked Sam Houston State Bearkats held off a hard-charging Tulane Green Wave team to capture the 2017 Allstate Sugar Bowl Collegiate Bowling Invitational title, their third championship in the past four years. Stephen F. Austin’s Stephanie Schwartz (245.60 average) was named tournament MVP. Taylor Russell of UAB (234.40), and Stephanie Zavala (231.20) and Madysen Keller (219.20) of Sam Houston State joined Tulane freshman Madison McCall on the All-Tournament Team.
Participating teams included Tulane, Alabama A&M, Bethune Cookman, Duquesne, Florida A&M, Jackson State, Lincoln Memorial, Louisiana Tech, Prairie View A&M, Southern, Stephen F. Austin, Texas Southern, UAB, Valparaiso and Sam Houston State.
