Edmund Named Athlete of the Month for August park
Daniel Edmund, a standout baseball player for the Retif Oil American Legion team, has been selected as the Greater New Orleans Amateur Athlete of the Month for August. The monthly award-winners are chosen in voting by the Greater New Orleans Sports Award Selection Committee, sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl.

Edmund, a senior first baseman, tallied a .414 batting average, a .469 on-base percentage and a .655 slugging percentage in eight games. In 29 plate appearances, he accounted for seven singles, three doubles and a pair of triples while stealing four bases. He also scored eight runs.
For the full Legion season, the left-hander batted .333 with a .509 slugging percentage and .510 on-base percentage. He knocked in 24 runs, hitting four triples, 11 doubles, on 36 overall hits. He walked 30 times. During prep action for Jesuit as a junior, Edmund hit .333 (31-for-93) with 17 RBI and 13 walks.
The Greater New Orleans Sports Selection Committee has been selecting an Amateur Athlete of the Month each month since 1958. The athlete must be a native of the greater New Orleans area or must compete for a team in the metropolitan region in order to be eligible. Each of the monthly award winners will be honored in the summer at the Greater New Orleans Sports Hall of Fame Induction and Awards Ceremony, hosted by the Allstate Sugar Bowl.
