Booker T. Washington/Carver/McDonogh 35 High Schools
A high school coaching legend in New Orleans, Wayne Reese won over 250 games in 41 years as a high school head coach at Booker T. Washington (six years), G.W. Carver (13 years), Washington-Marion and McDonogh 35 (18 years). His overall mark was 255-187. Dealing with young men in largely underprivileged situations, Reese helped them to develop as responsible citizens, football players and students and to become productive in the professional work force. Reese also coached track and field for many years as well, including every year at McDonogh 35. As the head coach of the Roneagles from 2003-11, his teams reached the state playoffs for eight consecutive seasons. Reese coached many players who went on to play in the NFL, including Pro Football Hall-of-Famer Marshall Faulk and Tyrone Jones from Carver, Delvin Breaux, Chris Clark and Talman Gardner at McDonogh 35, Nate Livings of Washington-Marion and Calvin Magee at Booker T. Washington. He died on April 2, 2020 at the age of 74.
