Edna Karr HS/Southern Miss/NFL
A standout QB at Edna Karr, Surtain led the Cougars to the state championship as a senior in 1993. He also played for the state champion basketball team as a senior. Surtain attended Southern Miss, where he was a four-year letterman and a two-year starter. As a junior, he started all 11 games and registered 84 tackles, eight pass break-ups and six interceptions. After being selected in the second round of the 1998 NFL Draft, Surtain played for seven years with the Miami Dolphins and four years with the Kansas City Chiefs. He was a three-time Pro Bowl selection as well as a two-time All-Pro (2002, 2003). Over his 11-year career, he recorded 415 tackles and 37 interceptions.
