4    Rules  The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) including the US Sailing Prescriptions, Class Rules (except as any are altered by these sailing instructions). Gulf Yachting Association (GYA) class rules for Race of Champions (ROC), Regulations for Sanctioned Events (GYA.org). RRS Appendix T, Section A, B, and C shall also apply.

5     Eligibility    Open but not limited to the following fleets and classes: PHRF Spinnaker, Classic Spinnaker, Classic Non-Spinnaker, One Design, Optimist, and GYA ROC. Four (4) or more boats properly registered and on the starting line will constitute a fleet or class. Fleets may be divided into classes.

5.1       PHRF Rating Requirements and Class Breaks     Each entrant shall have a valid rating certificate. Vessels without a valid rating certificate may compete with a rating assigned by the Race Committee. This rating is not subject to protest. Class breaks will be determined by the race committee based on the number of entries, and will be made available at the Skipper’s Meeting.

5.2       Classic Racing Divisions   Eligibility of a yacht to compete in a particular below described division is at the discretion of the race committee and is not subject to protest.

  • Classic Spinnaker  Classic Yacht shall be wet sailed, have inboard propulsion and a cruising interior (standing headroom, permanently installed & plumbed head/shower, galley, lighting, sleeping berths). A Classic Yacht shall be rigged with a symmetrical spinnaker with exception made for those vessels whose asymmetrical spinnaker and sprit pole does not exceed the measurements described in GYA Appendix C that result in a -3 second rating adjustment (For -3 seconds adjustment an asymmetrical spinnaker not greater than 123% of a standard J pole symmetrical spinnaker may be tacked to a sprit/structure not greater than J+2.5′).
  • Non-Spinnaker  Vessels competing in the Non-Spinnaker Division shall not set unstayed, free flying sails, such as a spinnaker, gennaker, blooper or any sail cut or flown to simulate such.

6      Entry Fee       There is no entry fee.

7     Registration   Register online at Regatta Network. Entries must be completed before the Skipper’s Meeting. To be considered “properly registered” one must provide all information as requested on the registration form.

8     Sailing Instructions / Official Notice Board  The Sailing Instructions will be made available prior to the Skipper’s Meeting.  The Official Notice Board is located at SYC in or near the Grill.

9      Disclaimer of Liability   Refer to RRS 1.2; 3 and 4. In addition, the skipper, boat owner, and each crew member are responsible for his/her own safety, and for the seaworthiness of his/her boat. It shall be the sole responsibility of the skipper, boat owner and each crew member to determine if they want to participate in this regatta and what actions they take to ensure their safety, to prevent injury, loss of life and material injury prior to, during, or after the regatta.

10        Scoring  The Low-Point scoring system of Appendix A will apply, except that each boat’s total score will be the sum of her scores for all races; no score will be excluded.

11        Prizes   Overall 1st, 2nd & 3rd place trophies will be awarded for each class. Trophies will be awarded at the Host Club after the last race and protest hearings, if any. PHRF trophies to be awarded at SYC on Saturday after all racing is completed and any protests are heard.

12        Racing Area   The racing area is the south shore of Lake Pontchartrain – NOAA Chart 11369.
