UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA GATORS POST-GAME PLAYER QUOTES
Friday, Jan. 1, 2010
EMMANUEL MOODY, RB
Why was the Florida offense so successful today: “Today, I felt like the ball was spread around to a lot of players, and for the most part, everyone had fun today. That’s what it’s all about.”
Did you guys expect an outcome like this: “Oh yeah. We come into every game, not trying to keep it close. Even the Alabama game, I was thinking, “Hey guys, let’s not keep it close. Let’s win by 20 points or three or four touchdowns.” So, we respect our opponents, but we don’t try to keep the games close.”
Did you guys see anything in particular in the Cincinnati defense that you thought you could exploit: “We felt like we would be able to run on them because of the pressures they were bringing would expose their run defense, and we did have a couple good runs in this game, but not as much as we felt we could have. The passing game was wide open.”
Have you ever seen Tim Tebow have the kind of game he had tonight: “Oh yeah. I think people forget the years he’s had at Florida, and some of the games he’s put together. That was just Tim doing what he does tonight.”
How big was this win heading into next season: “It’s huge. It brings so much more confidence to the players who are coming back and the coaches who are going to be back. We’re losing some coaches too. A lot of young players feel that they have some big shoes to fill from Spikes to Tebow. We have all the confidence in the world in John Brantley. He alone could be a Heisman winner himself”.
RYAN STAMPER, WLB
What’s next for you? I’m going to work out, see what the next level holds. I have a double major in Sociology and Criminology so I want to join the FBI, so that may be down the road.
Anything from film of the Cincinnati offense you thought you could exploit? We new they were going to throw the ball. They have good backs, but they don’t really run the ball. We knew they had a good quarterback, but with our pass rush we knew they were going to try to do a lot of quick passes and screens that’s why we were right there to make the tackle.
They almost got nothing deep, why that a focus? Not really a focus, but a lot of teams don’t think they can throw deep on us, so they throw a lot of quick dump off passes.
How much did you guys focus on Gilyard coming in? Didn’t really focus on anyone player. We knew he was a good receiver and they have a good quarterback, but we didn’t prepare for him or double team or anything.
What do you think it was about the defense? Just a lot of speed? Yes, they was a lot of speed. We were getting to the quarterback without blitzing, just a four man rush, so speed was a big factor.
Do you think this was win was a special win for Coach Meyer? Yes I do. They’re will never be another team like this, with Coach Strong leaving and whatever happens with Coach Meyer, so I think this was very special for him, our seniors and our whole team.
RILEY COOPER, WR
Was that the kind of game you guys were expecting tonight? I was just going to go out there and give 100 percent on everything, pass play, running plays, I didn’t expect that at all. You know 180 yards. I didn’t expect that but I did expect to go out there and do my best.
How fitting was it that the two roommates had the kind of night you both had? Tebow set the Sugar Bowl records and Florida school record for passing yards. You cannot say enough about that kid, he’s overcome a lot and just a heckuva guy.
How about that long pass from Tebow? I think the corner tried to jam me at the line but I kind of just tripled him and Tebow put it right on the money and I just ran underneath it and scored.
Did you guys feel you had something to prove with this game? For myself I looked at this game as a statement game. You know we dropped to No. 5 in the country after the performance against Alabama. It was just a statement game for us. We wanted to score as many points as possible and score everytime we touched the ball.
RILEY COOPER, WR
Is that as good as you’ve seen Tim Tebow throw the ball? Yes it was. It was a Florida record for passing yards. He had a heckuva night making all of his check-downs and reading the defenses very well. He was highly motivated for this game.
