Allstate Sugar Bowl to Sponsor CYO High School Basketball Tournament Again in 2015 park
For the eighth straight year, the Allstate Sugar Bowl will sponsor the Allstate Sugar Bowl CYO Basketball Tournament. The 2015 event will run from Wednesday, December 2 through Saturday, December 5 and will be played at four local high schools. The semifinals will be played on Friday evening at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at Jesuit. The finals will take place on Saturday at 7 p.m., also at Jesuit. This year marks the 62nd year of the tournament.
Schools scheduled to participate are Ben Franklin, Brother Martin, Chalmette, De La Salle, East St. John, Hahnville, Holy Cross, Jesuit, John Curtis, Lake Area, Newman, Rummel, St. Augustine, St. Paul's, St. Thomas Aquinas and Shaw.
Wednesday, December 2 Opening Round Match-Ups
Newman vs. St. Augustine, 6 p.m. (at Brother Martin)
Shaw vs. Brother Martin, 7:30 p.m. (at Brother Martin)
Curtis vs. De La Salle, 6 p.m. (at Jesuit)
Lake Area vs. Jesuit, 7:30 p.m. (at Jesuit)
Rummel vs. Ben Franklin, 6 p.m. (at Holy Cross)
Higgins vs. Chalmette, 7:30 p.m. (at Holy Cross)
East St. John vs. Holy Cross, 6 p.m. (at Hannan)
St. Thomas Aquinas vs. St. Paul's, 7:30 p.m. (at Hannan)
Thursday's second-round matchups, for both the winning and losing brackets, will take place at the same sites as the first round.
Last year's CYO Tournament saw East St. John defeat Brother Martin on the road, 52-44, to earn its first-ever title in the event. The Most Outstanding Player of the Tournament was Tre'von Jasmine from East St. John. Joining Jasmine on the all-tourney team were Richard Durant (John Curtis), Charles Brown (St. Augustine), Rob Weiss (Jesuit), Vajon Wallis (Brother Martin) and Troy Green (East St. John).
