Allstate Sugar Bowl Launches Free Mobile App park
The Allstate Sugar Bowl has launched its first mobile app for both iPhone and Android users. The free app will be invaluable to fans and ticket holders for this year's Sugar Bowl Classic, to be played on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014 at 7:30 p.m.
Information provided by the mobile app includes detailed schedules for the Allstate Fan Fest, a free fan event on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1 in the Jax Brewery parking lot in the French Quarter in downtown New Orleans. For those not familiar with the city, the app provides maps of downtown and the stadium as well as access to mapping functions to direct you to your desired location, with pre-set locations for Fan Fest, the Mercedes-Benz Superdome and the Allstate Sugar Bowl Fan Jam, the official pre-game party for the Sugar Bowl.
Other key features include social media command posts, opportunities to directly access the Sugar Bowl feeds from Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, as well as all Sugar Bowl News directly imported into the app, along with news items specific to the game.
After the teams are announced for the game on Sunday evening (Dec. 8, 7:30 p.m. Central, ESPN), the mobile app will also include team specific information.
Other features include a history section with top stories about the game from its history and a record book, as well as a direct link to view the latest Sugar Bowl merchandise.
The New Orleans Mid-Winter Sports Association was founded in 1934 by a group of civic-minded businessman and professionals interested in promotion amateur athletic events for the purpose of bringing visitors to New Orleans during what had traditionally been a slow period for tourism. Now known as the Sugar Bowl Committee, the organization remains a voluntary group whose members serve without remuneration.
Since the first Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1, 1935, the organization has hosted 23 national champion teams, 86 Hall of Fame players, 46 Hall of Fame coaches and 15 Heisman Trophy winners. In addition to football, the Sugar Bowl Committee is involved with various community initiatives through hosting and sponsorships of sporting events, awards and clinics. Through more than 25 annual activities, the organization supports and honors over 13,000 student-athletes each year, while injecting over $2 billion into the local economy in the last decade.
