Fellows (pictured left) qualified for the U.S. Women's Open by shooting a two-round 145 total at Shadow Hawk Golf Club in Richmond, Texas. The qualifier concluded June 1. A junior from Houston who was named Conference USA Co-Player of the Year, she shot a 1-over 73 in her first round and an even-par 72 in the second round. In the spring, Fellows led the Green Wave to its second straight C-USA title, an NCAA East Regional appearance and to the program's second straight trip to the NCAA Championships where the team finished 18th.
Winter (pictured right at banquet) went 4-0 in July while pitching for the Brother Martin-based Peake BMW American Legion baseball team. He led his squad to the Southeast Louisiana Regional Baseball Championship at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium. Winter, who was also the July Amateur Athlete of the Month in 2009, will attend Copiah-Lincoln Junior College on a baseball scholarship.
Ott, an LSU pitcher during the school year, had an outstanding summer pitching for the Harwich Mariners of the Cape Cod League, one of the most prestigious summer baseball leagues. In 20 1/3 innings of action, Ott allowed just one run for a 0.44 ERA. In 15 appearances for the Mariners, Ott allowed only nine singles, walked four and struck out 19. His seven saves ranked sixth in the league and he also picked up two wins out of the bullpen. Ott was also selected to pitch in the league's All-Star Game played in Fenway Park.
The Greater New Orleans Sports Selection Committee has been selecting an Amateur Athlete of the Month each month since 1958. The athlete must be a native of the greater New Orleans area or must compete for a team in the metropolitan region in order to be eligible. Each of the monthly award winners will be honored in the summer at the Greater New Orleans Sports Hall of Fame Induction and Awards Ceremony, hosted by the Allstate Sugar Bowl.
