Allstate AFCA Good Works Team Helps Community Prior to Sugar Bowl park
On the day before the 77th Allstate® Sugar Bowl, a number of the outstanding college football players selected to the 2010 Allstate AFCA Good Works Teams® joined Allstate agents and employees, as well as a few well- known personalities, in a community service project in New Orleans' Lower Ninth Ward.
In conjunction with LowerNine.org, a non-profit organization founded in 2007 to help teach volunteers of the Lower Ninth Ward the skills required to bring the neighborhood back to life, members of the 2010 team and more than 200 Allstaters worked on various projects including neighborhood clean-up and revitalization, house painting, blight mapping, and more.
Special volunteers at this year's event included country musician and Allstate Fan Fest performer Darius Rucker, actor and Allstate brand ambassador Dennis Haysbert, and New Orleans' City Councilman Jon Johnson. Two-time Allstate AFCA Good Works Team member and current voting panelist Matt Stinchcomb also lent a helping hand.
Allstate also made a special $10,000 donation to LowerNine.org to further assist the organization with their work in the neighborhood, one of the hardest hit areas of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.
In addition, the members of the 2010 Allstate AFCA Good Works Teams® were honored during halftime of the Allstate® Sugar Bowl with an on-field ceremony and video tribute broadcast nationally on the ESPN telecast.
