Ruston High Sweeps Titles at Sugar Bowl Track & Field Classic
Ruston High School swept both the boys' and girls' championships at the 2005 Sugar Bowl Track & Field Classic to become the first school in the 13 years of the event to earn both titles. It is the second straight championship for the Ruston boys.
The Outstanding Girls' Field Performer was Latoya Collins from L.E. Rabouin (New Orleans) who set a meet record in the long jump with a mark of 19-1.75. It was the second year in a row that Rabouin won the honor. Chasidee Lewis from Alexandria High School was selected as the Outstanding Girls' Track Performer.
On the boys' side, Larry Jones from Ruston was the Outstanding Field Performer after breaking the meet record in the discus with a throw of 177-3. The Outstanding Track Performer was Kerjuan Williams from St. Augustine High who set a meet record in the 800-meter run (1:51.55) while helping the Purple Knights to meet records in the 4x200 relay (1:26.32) and the 4x400 relay (3:15.53).
Other meet records established at the event were the girls' javelin as Anna Lyons (Ruston High) tallied a mark of 128-6; the boys' 400-meter dash when Ronnie Alexander (Belaire High) blazed to a 47.95 time; and the boys' high jump as Nathan Burks (Ruston High) cleared 6-9.
