Tulane Hosts Allstate Sugar Bowl Volleyball Classic

Thursday, September 10, 2009

NEW ORLEANS (Sept. 10, 2009) -- The eighth annual Allstate Sugar Bowl Women's Volleyball Classic will be hosted by Tulane University this Friday and Saturday at Fogelman Arena. Joining the Green Wave in the event will be LSU, Long Beach State and the University of New Orleans. Tulane has won the tournament in each of the past two years.

The tournament opens with UNO, making its fifth appearance in the Allstate Sugar Bowl Volleyball Classic, battling Long Beach State at 4 p.m. on Friday, followed by host Tulane battling LSU at 7 p.m. Prior to this match, the Green Wave athletic department will hold a special ceremony to unveil banners displaying the 2008 Conference USA and tournament championships, as well as a banner marking the program's first-ever trip to the NCAA tournament.

"That is going to make the whole day exciting," first-year Tulane head coach Sinisa Momic said of Friday's pre-match festivities. "It's a historic day for Tulane volleyball. Playing our first match at home after winning the conference championship last year, we need to let everyone know that we still have quality players and will still be a quality program. Raising those banners will make all the alumni and the people who were involved with the program before proud. They deserve it. They deserve to see that for the first time. Hopefully, it will motivate the team to play well."

Saturday's schedule opens with Long Beach State playing LSU at 11 a.m. It continues with UNO and Long Beach State at 4 p.m., followed by Tulane and Long Beach State at 8 p.m.

There will be three individual tickets ($6 for adults and $4 for youths) valid for the Allstate Sugar Bowl weekend: one for Friday's contests between UNO and Long Beach State at 4 p.m. and the Tulane/LSU match at 7 p.m., one for Saturday morning's match between Long Beach State and LSU at 11 a.m., and one for Saturday evening's matches between UNO and LSU at 4 p.m. and the Tulane/Long Beach State finale at 8 p.m. A tournament pass may also be purchased for $15, which will give fans access to all five matches at Fogelman Arena.

Doors open one hour prior to each match and all Tulane football season-ticket holders will have an opportunity purchase half-price tickets. Fans are invited to park throughout the weekend and the 2009 season free of charge in the Loyola Parking Garage, which is located on Freret Street just across from Fogelman Arena.
