Manning Planning Spotlight
Virginia Tech and Boise State can't be accused of opening their seasons with cupcakes. The Hokies, ranked No. 10 in the preseason AP poll, battle the third-ranked Broncos on Labor Day - Monday, Sept. 6 - at 6 p.m. (Central) at FedEx Field, the home of the Washington Redskins. The neutral site may be tilted a bit towards Virginia Tech, which is 283 miles from Blacksburg, while Boise is 2,390 miles from Landover, Md. Nearly 60,000 Hokie fans are expected in the 90,000-seat stadium. The game could also be key as far as Manning Award recognition as Boise State's Kellen Moore proved himself to be one of the top quarterbacks in the nation by throwing for 39 touchdowns with just three interceptions as the Broncos posted a perfect 14-0 record. Virginia Tech's Tyrod Taylor, meanwhile, enters his third year as the Hokie starter. He threw for 2,300 yards with 13 TDs last year, but has also run for 18 scores in his career. Monday's game will be televised live by ESPN. |
