A standout sprinter as youth in New Orleans who attended Scotlandville High School in Baton Rouge.

Attended Grambling before transferring to San Jose State to compete for Bud Winter's legendary "Speed City" teams - a grouping of many of the top sprinters in the country, including many Olympians.

Part of San Jose State's NCAA Championship team in 1969, running for the champion 440-yard relay team, along with Ronnie Ray Smith, John Carlos and Sam Davis - Smith and Carlos were both Olympic Gold Medalists in 1968.

Qualified for the 1968 U.S. Olympic Trials, finishing seventh in the 100-meter dash.

Also a member of San Jose State's Athletics Hall of Fame.
