Weather Shortens Allstate Sugar Bowl Collegiate Volleyball Classic Saturday, September 3, 2011
San Diego State and Southern Illinois shared the title for the weather-shortened 10th annual Allstate Sugar Bowl Collegiate Volleyball Classic, hosted by the Tulane University women's team, this past weekend at Fogelman Arena. The tournament, which also featured William & Mary, was originally scheduled for six matches with each team playing each of the other three schools. However, due to Tropical Storm Lee, the event was abbreviated. San Diego State and Southern Illinois finished with 1-1 records and did not play each other. Both schools won five sets and lost three. Tulane took third place after defeating San Diego State, 3-2, on Friday, but falling in straight sets on Saturday to Southern Illinois. The Sugar Bowl Committee continues to be very active in the New Orleans community by holding fast to its mission of sponsoring and promoting amateur sporting events which foster revenue and spark economic growth for the city and the state. This year the Bowl will support more than 25 events in sports such as volleyball, baseball, basketball, golf, lacrosse, sailing, track and field, soccer and tennis, as well as football. In addition, the Allstate Sugar Bowl sponsors the local chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame as well as the Greater New Orleans Sports Hall of Fame. -AllstateSugarBowl.org- |
