Semifinals Set For Allstate Sugar Bowl CYO Basketball Tournament

The semifinal pairings are set for the Allstate Sugar Bowl CYO Basketball Tournament as Rummel and Brother Martin will play at 6 p.m. tonight (Friday), followed by St. Augustine versus Karr at 7:30 p.m. Both games will be played at Jesuit High School.
Rummel, which remains undefeated this year at 7-0, advanced to the semifinals after posting a 43-37 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas on Thursday as Casey Wade tallied 13 second-half points on route to an 18-point evening. St. Thomas Aquinas was led by Stephen Wronkonski's 21 points.
Brother Martin used a long-distance game to jump to a 16-point halftime lead as the Crusaders topped Ellender, 69-46, in their quarterfinal contest. Five second-quarter three-pointers built the early lead which proved insurmountable. Denzel Flemings led all scorers with 18 points, while Schane Rillieux collected 14 - 13 of those in the first half, including three second-quarter three-pointers. The Patriots were led by Houston Chatman's 16 points.
St. Augustine used a big third quarter, outscoring Slidell 28-6 to eras a halftime deficit against the Tigers on route to a 68-50 victory. Craig Victor led the Purple Knights with 16 points while Deion Taylor scored 15 and Sydie Mitchell had 11. Michael Cooper led Slidell with 11 points.
Karr upended St. Paul's, 52-48, in the other quarterfinal contest.
In addition to the semifinal contests on Friday, the consolation bracket features a pair of interesting games in early Saturday action. West Bank neighbors West Jefferson and Shaw will meet at 10 a.m. at De La Salle High School, while fierce rivals Jesuit and Holy Cross follow that game at 11:30 a.m., also at De La Salle.
The Championship game will be played on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Jesuit High School.

Last year's tournament featured 16 boys' high school teams playing in 25 games. Jesuit High School held off St. Augustine, 58-50, to win the championship with the Blue Jays' Colby Kiefer earning the event's Most Valuable Player honor. It was Jesuit's first CYO Title since 2005.
