The Louisiana Soccer Association is conducting preliminary and championship play this weekend for the Louisiana State Cup, presented by the Allstate Sugar Bowl. The competition of State Cup preliminary play for age groups U18 & U19 girls and U14-19 boys will be held May 29-30 at Lafreniere Park, LaSalle Park and Lion Park in Metairie. The local club, Chicago Fire Junior Louisiana, will be hosting and overseeing these events.
The winners from this weekend's competition will advance to the Louisiana State Cup finals, presented by the Allstate Sugar Bowl, next weekend (June 5-6) in Lafayette, La.
Championship play was completed on May 1-2 for age group U11-13 boys and girls in Mandeville, La., hosted by the Mandeville Soccer Club. Championship events for age groups U14-17 girls were completed on May 1-2 in Metairie at Lafreniere Park, also hosted by the Chicago Fire Junior LA Soccer Club.
The Louisiana State Cup presented by the Allstate Sugar Bowl is conducted under the direction of U.S. Youth Soccer. The U.S. Youth Soccer National Championship Series continues play throughout the United States with four regional competitions. The winners from each of these regions in each age group advances to the Final Four championships.
Regional play is competition between state champions only. Region II play, which represents the southeastern area of the country (Texas to North Carolina) will be held in Baton Rouge during the last week of June through the first week of July. The Louisiana Soccer Association and the Baton Rouge Soccer Association will serve as hosts for the event. Hopefully we will have some teams from Louisiana emerge as champions and advance to the Final Four.
